Roof rats are the dominant rodent on the peninsula, climbing the heavy landscaping and palms to reach rooftops and attics. The coastal setting and irrigation keep the greenery, and the rodents it shelters, active year-round. House mice work into kitchens and garages through small gaps, and the older construction gives them more openings than a newer home would.
